What our clients are saying...

"Building a home can be an overwhelming venture as well as a huge monetary investment.  We interviewed several builders but once we met with Jeff we realized we had finally found a reputable contractor that was professional and knowledgeable. Jeff supported us in our decisions and directed us with his experience.  He gave attention to proper permitting, insurance coverage and maintaining a clean and safe work area during construction. He demonstrated his integrity, dependability and education in every aspect of the project. Jeff utilized workmen that are the best in their fields and we never ceased to be amazed by the beauty of their craftsmanship. We couldn’t be more pleased with the building process because of Jeff’s abilities as a Home Builder.  Our resulting product is a beautiful house built with quality and reflecting the pride of every effort that went into creating our home.We are forever grateful."

-Mike and Betsy Ogburn

"We had visited with a few builders before someone told us to call Jeff. After our first meeting with him we knew he would be the one to build our dream home. He stressed that he ran a tight crew, had a good working relationship with all the sub-contractors that were to be used... and he delivered. We were always kept abreast of the schedule and /or changes that had to be made. Jeff is detailed orientated and it shows in every facet of our project! From the foundation to the trim, we just couldn't be more pleased. We hope to stay in this house for a long time but if the time comes for us to build again, Jeff will be the only contractor we'd call! Thanks Jeff- we love our home!"

Craig House, Special K Ranch

Craig House is the latest addition to Special K Ranch, a 230 acre working ranch for developmentally disabled adults located 8 miles east of Columbus, Montana. A beautiful setting, the Ranch borders the stunning Yellowstone River.

Special K Ranch is currently home to 31 ranchers who live and work at the Ranch in vocational activities such as raising livestock (cows and sheep), growing bedding plants and hot tomatoes in the Ranch’s 60,000 SF greenhouse and caring for the trees and shrubs in the nursery. Multiple other vocational activities also take place at Special K Ranch.

Special K Ranch came about in 1986, with the first 4 ranchers moving to the Ranch in January of 1987. A number of existing and new homes provide housing for the residents and staff. The newest home, Craig House is a project that has been on the drawing board since 2007. Designed by Schutz Foss Architects in Billings, Montana, the new building is primarily designed to house some of the older residents, some of whom have lived at the Ranch for over 25 years. Construction on Craig House was completed in the fall of 2011.

The building is a ranch-style with a full walkout basement level. The main floor of the building is 5094 square feet and consists of 8 resident bedrooms, 4 large shared bathrooms (2 of which are completely ADA accessible) and a full-service kitchen with large pantry. A house parent’s apartment complete with its own kitchen, bath, bedroom and living area and a small guest bedroom/office with adjacent bathroom are also located on the main floor. Large windows in the gigantic great room on the south side of the building give way to a gorgeous view off the deck to the south and the Yellowstone river.

The lower floor is mainly a gathering area for large meetings, dinners and social events and is equipped with its own full-service kitchen, 2 ADA accessible bathrooms and guest living quarters including 2 bedrooms, ¾ bathroom and living room. Mechanical and storage areas are also located in the lower level.  A winding ADA accessible sidewalk leads the way to the lower level at the rear of the building from the parking-lot level at the front of the building.

The building is Energy Star certified and is therefore a very energy efficient structure. The building is equipped with a state of the art fire suppression system, computer monitored fire system and security, top of the line electrical equipment and lighting and high-efficiency heating and cooling systems (there are 5 furnaces and air conditioners).

Jeff Engel Construction, Inc. is extremely proud to have been involved in the construction of this building for Special K Ranch!

Tippet Rise

Tippet Rise Art Center, located SW of Fishtail, Montana is a performing arts center on a 10,260 acre working cattle and sheep ranch.  Construction was started in late 2014 and completion of Phase 1 was accomplished near the end of 2016.

Olivier Barn This is where the indoor concerts take place.  It's a 5,200 square foot LEED 'Gold' certified building and itself a work of art--acoustically, technically, and visually.  Inside are state of the art performance hall, control and recording rooms.  Films and stage presentations are also a common occurrence at Olivier Barn.  It houses as many as 5 - 6 Steinway pianos at any given time.  Musicians from around the world perform there.  It's an amazing place to see and an even more amazing place to hear.  Olivier Barn is the cornerstone of Tippet Rise.

The Energy Building is where the electrical power enters the ranch and is distributed to various buildings as needed.  It's an underground structure housing a very large generator, providing continuous, uninterrupted power if needed.  It is the heart of the geo-thermal heating and cooling system for Olivier Barn, the Residences and the Energy Building itself.  'Spare' Steinway pianos are stored there.  It is also a LEED 'Gold' certified building.  It was designed to be invisible upon entering the ranch and approaching the main complex.

Artists Residences Stillwater, Rosebud and Granite are where the performing artists reside while at Tippet Rise.  Beautifully designed and decorated, they provide very comfortable accommodations for all who stay.  They all have their own Steinways.

Tiara is the amphitheater where outdoor concerts are performed.  A simple structure, it has a strong foundation and an engineered truss and plywood framework.

The sound resonating from Tiara is impressive--a beautiful place to experience an outdoor concert.  It is designed to be assembled and dis-assembled with the seasons.

The Schoolhouse looks to be 100 years old but in fact is a newly constructed building that replicates a 100-year old building--a schoolhouse.  Attached and intertwined throughout the structure is a twisted willow sculpture by world renowned artist Patrick Dougherty.

The Cottages at Heller Bench consist of 6 high-tech, modular homes over the hill and out of view from the main complex.

The Cottages  house employees, workers and guests.
