Choosing Your Contractor

If you are in the market for a new home, you should shop for your Contractor as thoroughly as you shop for your home. The quality of your home will be determined by the quality of your Contractor.

 

Things to consider when searching for a Contractor:

 

  • Visit homes recently constructed by builders you are interested in.
  • Are people who purchased these home satisfied?
  • Ask prospective Contractors for references.
  • How long has the Contractor been in business locally?
  • What is the Contractor's reputation with local banks and suppliers?
  • Does the Contractor carry Worker's Compensation and Liability Insurance?
  • Can you communicate easily with the Contractor?
  • Do you feel comfortable with the Contractor?
  • Remember, you will be in close contact with the Contractor during the planning and construction of your home.  Good Communication is critical.
  • Will the Contractor provide you with a clearly written and complete contract?
  • What kind of warranty protection is offered by the Contractor?
  • Has or does the Contractor belong to the local Home Builders Association and the National Association of Home Builders)?
  • Be thorough and ask a lot of questions.
